Erosion Performance of Atmospheric Plasma Sprayed Thermal Barrier Coatings with Diverse Porosity Levels

چکیده

Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) prolong the durability of gas turbine engine components and enable them to operate at high temperature. Several degradation mechanisms limit TBCs during their service. Since atmospheric plasma spray (APS) processed 7–8 wt.% yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) widely utilized for applications are susceptible erosion damage, this work aims evaluate influence porosity levels on behavior. Eight different APS were produced from 3 powders with ranging 14% 24%. The as-deposited examined by SEM analysis. A licensed software was used quantify microstructural features. Mechanical properties evaluated using micro-indentation technique. subjected tests angles erodent impact performance evaluated. Based results, microstructure-mechanical property-erosion correlated. Findings provide new insights into features desired improved deposited YSZ TBCs.

Solid Particle Erosion of Thermal Sprayed Coatings

Solid particle erosion is an important material degradation mechanism. Although various methods of coating are tried and used for protection against erosion, thermal sprayed coating for such purpose is the most widely used method. In this chapter, evolution of thermal sprayed coating, erosion testing methods, and erosive wear of thermal sprayed coatings are discussed extensively with emphasis o...

Atmospheric Plasma Spraying of Single Phase Lanthanum Zirconate Thermal Barrier Coatings with Optimized Porosity "2279

The shortcomings at elevated operation temperatures of the standard material yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) for thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) have initiated many research activities seeking alternatives. One candidate is the pyrochlore lanthanum zirconate La2Zr2O7 (LZ), which is phase-stable to its melting point. At the same time, it shows a lower thermal conductivity and a lower sintering ...

Thermal Conductivity Analysis and Lifetime Testing of Suspension Plasma-Sprayed Thermal Barrier Coatings

Suspension plasma spraying (SPS) has become an interesting method for the production of thermal barrier coatings for gas turbine components. The development of the SPS process has led to structures with segmented vertical cracks or column-like structures that can imitate strain-tolerant air plasma spraying (APS) or electron beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) coatings. Additionally, SPS coa...
